Baseball Recap: Northwood Drops Season-High Score on Mansfield

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Northwood). They blew past the Mansfield Wolverines 21-1 on Tuesday. The Gators haven't had any issues with the Wolverines recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.

Chase Basco was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has become a key player for Northwood: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most two hits, but 4-10 otherwise. Basco was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. He also put up a home run, which was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Landen Dunnam was a standout: he scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. Northwood is undefeated when Dunnam posts two or more runs, but 3-11 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Braxten McFarlain, who scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

Northwood's win bumped their record up to 6-11. As for Mansfield, they are on a 16-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-15.

Coming up, Mansfield will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they takes on Ebarb at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Northwood will be paying especially close attention to the Wolverines' game: after the Wolverines faces off against the Rebels, they'll take on Northwood again at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
