Softball Recap: Carterville Picks Up 18th Straight Win at Home

There's no place like home for Carterville, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. Everything went their way against the Carmi-White County Bulldogs on Tuesday as Carterville made off with an 11-5 victory. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Lions also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2024.

Masyn Kries looked comfortable as she struck out six batters over 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk).

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Addyson Wright, who scored two runs while going 4-for-4. Another player making a difference was Kendall McCalla, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Carterville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Carmi-White County only posted an OBP of .353.

Carterville pushed their record up to 2-1 with the win, which was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Carmi-White County, their record now sits at 2-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Carterville will host Chester at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Chester's pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so Carterville's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Carmi-White County, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Benton at 4:30 p.m.
