Basketball Recap: Vina Takes a Loss

Vina lost against Cherokee back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Vina Red Devils came up short against the Cherokee Indians, falling 42-22. The game marked the Red Devils' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Despite the loss, Vina saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Makenzie Elrod posted 15 points. That's the most points Elrod has posted since back in November of 2024.

Vina has been struggling recently as they've lost 18 of their last 19 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-22 record this season. As for Cherokee, they moved to 5-13 with that win, which also ended their five-game losing streak.

Vina won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Tharptown at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Vina is facing Tharptown at the right time seeing as Tharptown is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Cherokee, they will also get right back to it: they'll square off against Shoals Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
