Football Recap: Jesse Baker Key Part of Team Effort in Bulldogs Win

There's no place like home for Staunton/Bunker Hill, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They took down the Gillespie Miners 27-8 on Friday. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Miners recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Staunton/Bunker Hill to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jesse Baker, who rushed for 140 yards and one score on only 12 carries. Those 140 rushing yards gave Baker a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jake Spencer, who picked up 94 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Staunton/Bunker Hill was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 256 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 187 rushing yards in six consecutive contests.

The win got Staunton/Bunker Hill back to even at 4-4. As for Gillespie, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-6.

Coming up, Staunton/Bunker Hill will venture away from home to challenge Greenville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Comets will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last. As for Gillespie, they will be playing at home against North Mac at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Miners will be up against the Panthers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 42.25 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
