Baseball Game Preview: Grosse Pointe South Blue Devils vs. University of Detroit Jesuit Cubs

The Grosse Pointe South Blue Devils will face off against the University of Detroit Jesuit Cubs on Saturday. Grosse Pointe South is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.

Grosse Pointe South is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Western International a 3-0 shutout.

Grosse Pointe South got a great performance from Jack Danielewicz as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. Danielewicz has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in ten consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Grosse Pointe South saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Drew Hess, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask University of Detroit Jesuit). Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Grosse Pointe South, their victory bumped their record up to 31-7.

Grosse Pointe South was able to grind out a solid win over University of Detroit Jesuit in their previous meeting back in June of 2023, winning 4-0. Will the Blue Devils repeat their success, or do the Cubs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
