Baseball Recap: Bishop McLaughlin Catholic Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Bishop McLaughlin Catholic can now relate to. They fell just short of the Tampa Catholic Crusaders by a score of 8-7 on Tuesday. The Hurricanes were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Crusaders earlier this season, when they won 10-5.

Bishop McLaughlin Catholic got a good showing from Noah Cartiglia, who tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Cartiglia has become a key player for the Hurricanes: the team is 4-2 when he allows at most two hits, but 8-12 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Elvys Quezada and Steele Thalleen did some serious damage despite the final result: Quezada got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Thalleen went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Christopher Rodriguez, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one double.

Bishop McLaughlin Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 12-14. As for Tampa Catholic, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-8 record this season.
