Softball Recap: Bellevue Broncos vs. Mendon Hornets
Bellevue had lost five straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 0-3 to make it six. They came up short against the Mendon Hornets, falling 15-1. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Broncos couldn't push the score so high this time.
As for Mendon, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-1. The result was nothing new for the Hornets, who have now won ten contests by six runs or more so far this season.
For Mendon's part, Ally Butler was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). Butler has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Mendon got a massive performance out of Gracie Schultz, who went 3-for-4 with two triples, three RBI, and two runs. Those two triples gave Schultz a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Rowan Allen, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Looking ahead, Bellevue will welcome Burr Oak at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Mendon, they will head out to challenge Centreville at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bulldogs will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Hornets surely won't give up without a fight.
