Baseball Recap: Wednesday's Loss Ends Paradise Valley's Winning Streak

If Paradise Valley was riding high fresh off their 13-1 takedown of North Canyon last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Trojans took a 10-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Rattlers on Wednesday. The Trojans' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Paradise Valley got a good showing from Drew England, who tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave England a new career-low in walks (zero).

At the plate, Connor Mitchell was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Paradise Valley's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 7-8 when he doesn't). Nick deChaud also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Paradise Valley's loss dropped their record down to 10-9. As for North Canyon, their victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 7-11.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Paradise Valley will square off against Arizona College Prep at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. The Trojans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Knights have averaged an impressive 8.5 runs per game this season. As for North Canyon, they will face off against Canyon View at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. The Jaguars will roll in looking for their tenth straight win, something the Rattlers surely won't give up without a fight.
