Preview: Rosebud-Lott Cougars vs. Marlin Bulldogs
The Rosebud-Lott Cougars will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Marlin Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. Rosebud-Lott will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 923rd, while Marlin is ranked 427th).
Last Friday, Rosebud-Lott was beaten by Valley Mills 48-14.
Despite the loss, Rosebud-Lott got a solid performance out of Jamarquis Johnson, who picked up 124 receiving yards and a touchdown. Johnson was no stranger to the big play, lighting up the secondary with a catch that went for 61 yards.
Meanwhile, Marlin entered their tilt with Bruceville-Eddy with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. Marlin took their contest at home on Friday with ease, bagging a 57-0 win over Bruceville-Eddy. The result was nothing new for Marlin, who have now won three contests by 54 points or more so far this season.
Marlin's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Mario Hopwood, who rushed for 157 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries, and Roderick Suiters, who rushed for 89 yards and a touchdown on only six carries.
Rosebud-Lott's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Marlin, their victory was their sixth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 6-2.
Things could have been worse for Rosebud-Lott, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 32-18 loss to Marlin when the teams last played back in October of 2022. Thankfully for Rosebud-Lott, Desmond Woodson (who rushed for 82 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries, and also threw for 156 yards and two touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
