Basketball Recap: Andrew Jackson Takes a Loss

Andrew Jackson and Newberry squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but Andrew Jackson had to settle for second. They took a 65-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Newberry Panthers. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Brandy Whitfield continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Newberry, going 11-for-19 to rack up 29 points along with seven steals and five assists. That makes it four consecutive games in which Whitfield has scored at least a third of Newberry's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jada Brown, who went 6-for-12 en route to 14 points.

Andrew Jackson's loss dropped their record down to 16-11. As for Newberry, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 14 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season.

Andrew Jackson does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Newberry, they will face off against Rutherford at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.
