Baseball Game Preview: Bassett Bengals vs. Halifax County Comets

Bassett hasn't had much luck against Halifax County recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Bengals will take on the Comets at 6:00 p.m.

Bassett fell victim to Tunstall and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Trojans.

Meanwhile, Halifax County waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with nine straight wins... but they left with ten. Everything went their way against the Eagles as they made off with a 34-0 win. The Comets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 games by six runs or more this season.

Halifax County got a great performance from CJ Farley as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Farley has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Logan Clark was a standout: he fired off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-3. He has been hot recently, having posted four or more RBI the last three times he's played. Eli Seamster was another key player, going 4-for-5 with five RBI and three runs.

Halifax County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .745. The last time their OBP was this high was was before the start of last season.

Halifax County pushed their record up to 16-6 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Bassett, their loss dropped their record down to 6-8.

Bassett came up short against Halifax County in their previous meeting back in April, falling 7-3. Can the Bengals avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
