Softball Game Preview: Grace Lancers vs. Bishop Diego Cardinals

For the second straight game, Grace will face off against Bishop Diego. The Lancers are taking a road trip to square off against the Cardinals at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Grace is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.8 runs per game this season.

Grace had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt Bishop Diego on Thursday. The Lancers put the hurt on the Cardinals with a sharp 13-2 victory. Considering the Lancers have won six games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Rosy Salazar made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Grace Maguire, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Brooke Burns, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one triple.

Grace lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Grace's win was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Bishop Diego, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-6.
