Chartiers-Houston extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping them down to 9-8. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-7 heartbreaker at the hands of the California Trojans. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Trojans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-0 on Monday.
Chartiers-Houston saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dominic Cumer, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. Another was Parker Riggle, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
As for California, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games.
On California's side, Logan Hartley made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over 6.1 innings while giving up five earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Hartley was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
In other batting news, Weston Monticelli and Eli Carpenter did most of the damage at the plate: Monticelli got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs, while Carpenter went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Carpenter a new career-high. Easton Daniels was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one triple.
Coming up, Chartiers-Houston will take on Riverside at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Buccaneers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 8.1 runs per game this season. California does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
