Softball Recap: Alamosa Wins Going Away Against Gunnison

Alamosa got themselves on the board against Gunnison on Tuesday, but Gunnison never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 12-0 margin over the Cowboys. The Mean Moose have beaten the Cowboys the last eight times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Cowboys has come to flipping the script.

Olivia Castillo looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Alamosa got a massive performance out of Leah Higareda, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. Those four RBI gave Higareda a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Taelynn Kreps-Smith, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two RBI, and one double.

Alamosa was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .526. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .323 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Alamosa's victory bumped their record up to 9-5. As for Gunnison, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season.

Alamosa will host La Junta at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Gunnison, they will head out to challenge Sierra at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
