Herschel Turner of Mt. Diablo is the California High School Football Player of the Week

Senior running back was unstoppable in win over Deer Valley.

After receiving more than 38,000 votes, Herschel Turner of Mt. Diablo (Concord) is the MaxPreps California High School Football Player of the Week.

In a 39-28 win over Deer Valley, the senior running back ran for 377 yards and six touchdowns on 16 carries.

Here are the rest of this week's candidates, who collectively garnered more than 56,000 votes:

Brandt Barker, El Capitan (Lakeside): Junior quarterback was 7 of 7 passing for 245 yards and four touchdowns in a 55-0 win over Canyon Hills.



Chase Everett of Village Christian (Sun Valley): Sophomore quarterback completed 22 of 42 pass attempts for 286 yards and five touchdowns in a 45-8 win over Granada Hills Charter.

Dominic Ezeonye, Wilson (Hacienda Heights): Junior running back ran for 258 yards and five touchdowns on 23 carries in a 35-21 win over Alhambra.

Porter Fischer, Enterprise (Redding): Junior wide receiver hauled in five touchdown catches. He caught nine balls for 170 yards in a 39-35 win over Orland.

Steele Pizzella, Notre Dame (SO) (Sherman Oaks): Junior quarterback was 19 of 24 for 343 yards and 3TDs in a 41-0 win over Birmingham.

Caleb Sanchez, St. John Bosco (Bellflower): Senior quarterback threw for 340 yards and two touchdowns in a 20-7 win against national No. 9 St. Thomas Aquinas.

Ryon Sayeri, Chaminade (West Hills): Senior kicker booted field goals of 53 and 52 yards in a 40-30 win over Cathedral Catholic. Also connected on 4 of 5 point-after attempts.



Akili Smith Jr., Lincoln (San Diego): Senior quarterback threw for four first-half touchdowns in a 58-6 win over Alemany.
