Basketball Recap: Antoine Cueller-Morgan and Adam Sanchez Secure Win for Azusa

While Azusa didn't have the best season last year (they finished 11-21), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Everything went their way against The Webb Schools Gauls on Tuesday as the Azusa Aztecs made off with a 62-40 win. The Aztecs have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Gauls, too.

Azusa was led to victory by Adam Sanchez and Antoine Cueller-Morgan. Sanchez shot 5-for-8 from deep and dropped a double-double on 24 points and 11 rebounds, while Cueller-Morgan went 10 of 21 on his way to 26 points. Sanchez's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Garcia, who posted five points along with six rebounds and five assists.

Despite the defeat, The Webb Schools saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ethan Hao went 8 of 12 en route to 25 points. Those 25 points set a new season-high mark for Hao.

Azusa pushed their record up to 5-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.8 points per game. As for The Webb Schools, their loss dropped their record down to 3-2.

Azusa will host El Monte at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Azusa knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three matchups -- so hopefully El Monte likes a good challenge. As for The Webb Schools, they will head out to take on El Rancho at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
