Baseball Game Preview: McCann Tech Hornets vs. Hopkins Academy Golden Hawks

The McCann Tech Hornets are taking a road trip to square off against the Hopkins Academy Golden Hawks at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

McCann Tech had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the nine-run drubbing they dealt Lee on Monday. The Hornets never let the Wildcats get on the board and left with a 9-0 win. The Hornets' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Hayden Barrett made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. Barrett was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run. That hit was his first of the season.

In other batting news, McCann Tech let Kolton Buck and Lukas Rylander run wild. Meanwhile, Hopkins Academy entered their tilt with Easthampton/Hampshire on Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They walked away with a 4-1 victory over the Eagles. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.

Hopkins Academy's record now sits at 8-4. As for McCann Tech, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 3-3 record this season.

McCann Tech came up short against Hopkins Academy when the teams last played back in June of 2023, falling 6-3. Can the Hornets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
