Basketball Recap: Jabrae Howard Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Columbia Academy

Marshall County lost to Columbia Academy back in December of 2019, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Tuesday. The Marshall County Tigers came out on top against the Columbia Academy Bulldogs by a score of 77-69. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 118th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 239th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Marshall County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jabrae Howard, who went 10 of 14 on his way to 25 points in addition to five boards and three blocks. Those three blocks gave Howard a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayce Harney, who went 8 for 12 on his way to 19 points and three steals.

Marshall County was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Columbia Academy only racked up ten assists.

Columbia Academy's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jeremy Jackson, who went 11 of 14 on his way to 23 points in addition to eight boards and six assists, and Cooper Estep, who went 10 of 14 on his way to 26 points and five boards. With that strong performance, Estep is now averaging an impressive 16.2 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Myers Malone, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 12 points and five rebounds.

The win made it two in a row for Marshall County and bumps their season record up to 2-1. As for Columbia Academy, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Marshall County wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 79-40 victory against Spring Hill on the 6th. As for Columbia Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 63-42 win against Middle Tennessee Christian on the 6th.
