Basketball Recap: Mena Tucker Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Steamboat Springs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Delta, Moffat County was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They came out on top against the Steamboat Springs Sailors by a score of 43-30. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Bulldogs also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2024.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Moffat County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Mena Tucker, who almost dropped a triple-double on ten points, ten boards, and nine steals. Tucker is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last eight games she's played. Another player making a difference was Caitlyn Adams, who went 5 of 9 on her way to 14 points and six rebounds.

Steamboat Springs' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Hailey Bender, who posted eight points and 12 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Mahlet Vanblarcum, who earned ten points and four steals.

The win got Moffat County back to even at 7-7. As for Steamboat Springs, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season.

Moffat County will venture away from home to take on Coal Ridge at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Steamboat Springs, they will host Delta at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Delta will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Steamboat Springs surely won't give up without a fight.
