Softball Recap: Chalmette Find Success

Chalmette hadn't done well against Northshore recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Owls narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Panthers 6-4. The game was the first time the Owls have beaten the Panthers on their field since March 4, 2016.

Emma Borden spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on six hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Shelby Vitrano was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Aubrie Watts, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4.

Chalmette's victory bumped their record up to 11-7. As for Northshore, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-12 record this season.

Chalmette will head out on the road to square off against Riverdale at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Northshore, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Fisher at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Gators have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season.
