Softball Game Preview: Pitman Pride vs. Downey Knights

The Pitman Pride will face off against the Downey Knights at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pitman will be strutting in after a win while Downey will be coming in after a defeat.

Having struggled with seven losses in a row, Pitman turned things around against Modesto on Thursday. They came out on top against the Panthers by a score of 10-5. The high-scoring effort was just what the Pride needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.

Elyssa Alcazar was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off ten hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Shelby Woods was a standout: she scored three runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-4. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Keanna Haro, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two doubles, and two RBI.

Pitman kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Downey was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They lost 14-2 to Turlock.

Pitman's victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-7 and their overall record up to 4-10. As for Downey, their loss dropped their record down to 1-19.
