Recap: Cape Henlopen Vikings vs. Dover Senators
On Friday, The Cape Henlopen Vikings faced the Dover Senators in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Cape Henlopen was outmatched by Dover on the road and fell 35-7. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Cape Henlopen in their matchups with Dover: they've now lost three in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Cape Henlopen lost, one person who can't be blamed is Maurki James. Despite the final result, he rushed for 189 yards. James hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for five straight games.
John Parker was a one-man wrecking crew for Dover as he rushed for 200 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 11.1 yards per carry, and also picked up 91 receiving yards and a touchdown. Parker's longest reception was for an incredible 86 yards. Jakhai Tilghman also deserves a mention for his punt return touchdown.
Cape Henlopen's loss dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Dover, their victory bumped their record up to 8-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cape Henlopen will take on St. Georges Tech at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Delaware (St. Georges Tech is ranked 15th, while Cape Henlopen is ranked eighth). As for Dover, they will head out on the road to face off against Caesar Rodney at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The timing isn't great for Caesar Rodney: they have been struggling with four straight losses at home, while Dover has snatched up five consecutive wins on the road dating back to last season.
