Softball Recap: Queen Creek Picks Up 16th Consecutive Victory

Queen Creek had already won 15 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it 16 on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Perry Pumas, sneaking past 5-3. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 6-3 back in March.

Alexis Mendez looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Kayla Porter was incredible, firing off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-3. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alessia Velazquez, who went 1-for-2 with one home run.

Queen Creek's win was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 25-5. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Perry, their loss dropped their record down to 16-14.

Looking ahead, Queen Creek will welcome Desert Vista at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Bulldogs 3.7, the Thunder 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Perry, they will square off against Basha at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bears' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Pumas' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
