Softball Recap: PikeView Takes a Loss

PikeView easily dispatched Montcalm on Monday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Panthers fell just short of the James Monroe Mavericks by a score of 9-7 on Tuesday. The Panthers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Mavericks earlier this season, when they won 2-1.

Shelby Maddox spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered nine runs (all of which were unearned) on four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 15 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Bella Delida made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Emma Compton was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and one double.

PikeView now has a losing record of 8-9. As for James Monroe, their win bumped their record up to 4-5.

Coming up, PikeView will challenge Shady Spring at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for James Monroe, they will face off against Woodrow Wilson at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Flying Eagles will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Mavericks surely won't give up without a fight.
