How to watch: MaxPreps Game of the Week features California vs. Florida clash as storied De La Salle hosts Lakeland

Bi-coastal battle between programs on the Mount Rushmore of their respective states features 22 players with FBS offers.

In a showdown between storied high school football programs from California and Florida, De La Salle (Concord, Calif.) will open its season by hosting Lakeland (Fla.) on Friday in the MaxPreps Game of the Week.

Lakeland (1-0) opened its 2025 campaign Thursday with a 31-21 win over Auburndale. The Dreadnaughts went 13-1 last season with the only loss coming to national power St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale) in the state championship game.

De La Salle's 2024 season followed a similar course, finishing 12-1 with the lone loss coming to eventual national champion Mater Dei (Santa Ana) in the state title contest.

Seniors Jaden Jefferson (North Carolina commit) and Nemyah Telona (California) lead the way for De La Salle. Duece Jones-Drew , the son of former Spartan great Maurice-Jones-Drew, is regarded as one of the top junior running backs in the country after rushing for five touchdowns as a sophomore.

Four-star prospects Malik Morris and Santana Harvey lead Lakeland on defense. Morris is committed to Florida and had 95 tackles, nine sacks and three forced fumbles last season. The senior also contributes on the other side of the ball with 15 rushing scores in his career. Harvey is is coming off a 2024 sophomore campaign where he had 60 tackles, 8.5 sacks and two forced fumbles. He is the son of Derrick Harvey, the No. 8 overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft and former teammate of Jones-Drew in Jacksonville.
