Baseball Game Preview: JSerra Catholic Lions vs. St. John Bosco Braves

For the second straight game, JSerra Catholic will face off against St. John Bosco. The Lions will face off against the Braves at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (JSerra Catholic 3.8, St. John Bosco 2) so any runs scored will be well earned.

JSerra Catholic's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Wednesday's struggle, when St. John Bosco hitters got past them. The Lions came up short against the Braves on Wednesday, falling 11-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Lions have suffered since April 11th.

For St. John Bosco's part, they got a great performance from Gavin Cervantes as he pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Cervantes has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Micah Taguiam was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February of 2024. James Clark also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

St. John Bosco kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matches.

St. John Bosco's victory was their ninth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 21-4. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for JSerra Catholic, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-14.
