Recap: Alpena Wildcats vs. Gaylord Blue Devils
While the Alpena Wildcats couldn't quite beat the Gaylord Blue Devils on Friday, the two-point margin was a huge improvement compared to the 27-point defeat they were dealt last Tuesday. Alpena fell just short of Gaylord by a score of 56-54. Alpena has struggled against Gaylord recently, as their contest on Friday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
It was another big night for Luke Gelow, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 11 rebounds for Gaylord. Another player making a difference was Cayden Keck, who scored 11 points.
Alpena has not been sharp recently as the team's lost seven of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season. As for Gaylord, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-10.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Alpena will take on Traverse City West at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Alpena will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Michigan Rankings (they are ranked 447th, while Traverse City West is ranked 97th). As for Gaylord, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Bay City Western at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Bay City Western is coming into the matchup with four straight wins on the road, so Gaylord is out to stop a squad with plenty of momentum.
