Basketball Recap: Josiah Ortiz's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Hagerty over Lake Howell

If Hagerty was riding high fresh off their 79-53 takedown of Seabreeze last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Hagerty Huskies came up short against the Lake Howell Silverhawks on Wednesday, falling 72-49. While losing is never fun, the Huskies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 292nd, while the Silverhawks are ranked 31st).

Hagerty's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Josiah Ortiz, who went 7 for 13 on his way to 17 points. Ortiz is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Mason Morrow, who posted ten points and five boards.

Isaac Buckley continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Lake Howell, going 6 of 14 on his way to 24 points. Devonn Quailey was another key player, going 6 for 8 on his way to 15 points.

Hagerty's defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Lake Howell, their record now sits at 14-2.

Hagerty will host Oviedo at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hagerty is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.1 points per game this season. As for Lake Howell, they will head out to face off against Lake Mary at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Lake Howell's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last nine matchups.
