Softball Recap: Ashford Takes a Loss

Ashford extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 8-11 in the process. They came up short against the Headland Rams, falling 14-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Rams this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-3 back in March.

As for Headland, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-13. Considering they have won 11 games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

For Headland's part, Shaylee Greathouse made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. Greathouse has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three RBI and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.

In other pitching news, Mally Arnold looked comfortable as she tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Harlee Raley was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Addison Grantham was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Looking ahead, Ashford will head out on the road to take on Wicksburg at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Panthers' pitching crew has only allowed 1.5 runs per game this season, so the Yellowjackets' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Headland, they will host Eufaula at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
