Basketball Recap: Make It Nine in a Row for Algona

Algona came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They managed a 64-58 victory over the St. Edmond Gaels. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' Iowa basketball rankings (they are ranked 40th, while the Gaels are ranked 222nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Algona pushed their record up to 14-3 with the win, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.7 points per game. As for St. Edmond, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-9.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Algona will host Webster City at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. As for St. Edmond, they will be playing in front of their home fans against West Bend-Mallard at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday.
