Basketball Recap: West Point Takes a Loss

West Point was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They took a blow against the Xavier College Prep Gators, falling 64-21. While losing is never fun, the Dragons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 132nd, while the Gators are ranked 22nd).

It was another big night for Irene(Noelle) Guiamatsia, who went 10 of 12 on her way to 21 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals for Xavier College Prep. Guiamatsia has been hot recently, having posted eight or more boards the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sariah McNabb, who went 5 of 11 on her way to 10 points and five steals.

West Point's defeat dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Xavier College Prep, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Point will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Red Mountain at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Xavier College Prep also won't see the court for a while: their next game is against Mountain Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Xavier College Prep is coming into the match hot, having won their last three games.
