Baseball Recap: Northridge Drops Season-High Score on Hinkley

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Northridge). Everything went their way against the Hinkley Thunder on Monday as they made off with a 15-2 victory. Considering the Grizzlies' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Ruger Lancaster was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Beau Rupp and Jaycob Lermon did most of the damage at the plate: Rupp went 1-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double, while Lermon went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three RBI gave Rupp a new career-high. Wyatt Hill also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Northridge's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-14. As for Hinkley, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-10.

Looking ahead, Northridge will welcome Severance at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. The timing isn't great for the Grizzlies: they have been struggling with six straight losses at home, while the Silver Knights have snatched up three consecutive wins on the road. As for Hinkley, they will head out to take on George Washington at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday.
