Game recap: Gautier High School Football Team defeats George County

GAUTIER, Miss. - Gautier (Miss.) grabbed the lead when Jamyrian Quinn threw a touchdown to Isaiah Swopes with 9:00 left in the fourth quarter and held on to beat George County (Lucedale, Miss.) 27-15 on Saturday. The score was the final lead change in a back-and-forth contest that featured three lead swaps.

After trailing 9-8 at the half, the Rebels went ahead on a two-point conversion with 4:00 left in the third.

By the end of the third, Gautier found itself trailing by four points as George County captured the lead thanks to two scores in the quarter. GC scored on an Dickey touchdown run and a two-point conversion in the quarter.

Coming into the game GHS had allowed 22.9 points per game this year. The Gators held firm on the defensive front, and kept the Lucedale school right around the 12.8 points it had been averaging per game.



The victory was a step in the right direction for Gautier, which was coming off a 21-18 defeat at the hands of Stone in its previous game. The loss was the fourth in a row for the Rebels.

Gautier (5-4) will play a 5A Region 4 game against Long Beach next week, while George County (1-8) will take on Pascagoula also in a 5A Region 4 game.
