Softball Recap: Independence Extends Winning Streak to Three

Independence hadn't done well against Overfelt recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The 76ers were the clear victors by a 20-5 margin over the Royals. The result was nothing new for the 76ers, who have now won ten matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Julieta Ramirez made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, Mackenzy Sauao and Ava Sanchez did most of the damage at the plate: Sauao got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Sanchez went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Bre Cobb was another key player, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

The win (which was Independence's third in a row) raised their record to 14-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.3 runs over those games. As for Overfelt, they are on a 13-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-12.

Coincidentally, Independence and Overfelt will both be playing James Lick the next time they take the field. The 76ers will host the Comets at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, while the Royals will head out to face them at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
