Football Game Preview: Gruver Greyhounds vs. Lockney Longhorns + How To Watch

The Gruver Greyhounds will face off against the Lockney Longhorns at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Gruver's favor is that they have posted at least 31 points in their last three contests.

Last Friday, Gruver really took it to Farwell for the full four quarters, racking up a 56-14 win. The Greyhounds might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by 21 points or more this season.

Gruver had a senior duo take command as Briggs Satterfield rushed for 98 yards and three TDs and Nicholas Shepard picked up 112 receiving yards and three scores.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Gruver proved: they limited Farwell to a paltry 0.6 yards per carry. The Greyhounds' ground attack was stronger, having averaged 5.4.

Meanwhile, Lockney was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 28-22 to Crosbyton. The Longhorns have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Gruver will have to keep a close watch on Kason Villareal and Daniel Alvarado, a pair of players who had a big impact on Lockney's prior game. Villareal rushed for 161 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while Alvarado rushed for 123 yards and one TD. Villareal is becoming a predictor of Lockney's success: when he posts at least 80 rushing yards the team is 2-1 (and 2-5 when he doesn't).

Gruver's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 6.4 points on average over those games. As for Lockney, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6.
