Basketball Game Preview: St. Raymond Boys Ravens vs. Archbishop Stepinac Crusaders

St. Raymond Boys is 1-9 against Archbishop Stepinac since February of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Sunday. The St. Raymond Boys Ravens will challenge the Archbishop Stepinac Crusaders at 3:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

St. Raymond Boys is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They walked away with a 68-59 win over St. Francis Prep. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Ravens.

Meanwhile, Archbishop Stepinac had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Thursday. They beat the Royals by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 72-52. Given the Crusaders' advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked first, while the Royals are ranked 31st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Archbishop Stepinac's win came from a few key players St. Raymond Boys will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Danny Carbuccia, who went 6-for-10 to rack up 19 points along with eight boards and five assists. That's the most points he has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jasiah Jervis, who shot 67% from the field en route to 18 points.

Archbishop Stepinac pushed their record up to 25-4 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 79.4 points over those games. As for St. Raymond Boys, their record now sits at 17-12.

St. Raymond Boys came up short against Archbishop Stepinac when the teams last played two weeks ago, falling 66-61. Can St. Raymond Boys avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
