Baseball Recap: St. Mary's Takes a Loss

St. Mary entered their matchup against Mesquite on Thursday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Knights fell 9-5 to the Wildcats. The Knights were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Wildcats earlier this season, when they won 3-2.

Luis Mejia was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.

St. Mary's defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 13-7. As for Mesquite, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season.

St. Mary's will take on Cactus Shadows at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Falcons' pitching crew has only allowed 2.2 runs per game this season, so the Knights' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Mesquite, they will square off against Campo Verde at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Coyotes have averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season.
