Basketball Game Preview: Santiam Wolverines vs. Scio Loggers

The Santiam Wolverines will square off against the Scio Loggers at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Scio is hoping to do what Crosshill Christian couldn't on Monday: put an end to Santiam's winning streak, which now stands at three games. Santiam snuck past Crosshill Christian with a 61-57 win.

Meanwhile, couldn't have asked for a better way to wrap up 2024 than the 62-35 stomp they got against Gaston. Given the Loggers' advantage in MaxPreps' Oregon basketball rankings (they are ranked 111th, while the Greyhounds are ranked 253rd), the result on Monday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Santiam's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-2. As for Scio, their win bumped their record up to 5-3.

Santiam won a match that couldn't have been any closer in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, slipping by Scio 60-59. The rematch might be a little tougher for Santiam since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
