Softball Game Preview: Polo Marcos vs. South Beloit Sobos

The Polo Marcos will challenge the South Beloit Sobos at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Polo came up short against Eastland on Thursday, falling 13-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Marcos have suffered against the Cougars since April 24, 2017.

Polo saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Camrynn (Cam) Jones, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

Meanwhile, South Beloit was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They lost 16-1 to Orangeville.

This is the second loss in a row for Polo and nudges their season record down to 4-14. As for South Beloit, their loss dropped their record down to 9-8.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Polo has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like South Beloit struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Everything went Polo's way against South Beloit in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Polo made off with a 10-0 victory. Will the Marcos repeat their success, or do the Sobos have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
