Volleyball Recap: Robert Almendarez's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Eastlake over Cathedral Catholic

Eastlake was the 3-1 winner over Cathedral Catholic when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Titans took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Dons on Thursday.

Eastlake started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 23-25, 25-17, 25-16, 25-18.

Eastlake's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Robert Almendarez, who had 14 assists and four digs. Almendarez has been hot, having posted 14 or more assists the last six times he's played. Another player making a difference was Michael Jaymalin, who had 20 assists and six digs.

Eastlake has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-10 record this season. As for Cathedral Catholic, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-3.

Eastlake wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 3-1 loss against Del Norte on the 8th. As for Cathedral Catholic, they have also already played their next contest, a 3-1 victory against Francis Parker on the 4th.
