Forreston is 9-1 against Amboy since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. Forreston will host Amboy at 4:30 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.
On Monday, Forreston got the win against Genoa-Kingston by a conclusive 9-3. The Cardinals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by six runs or more this season.
Mickey Probst was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Kendall Erdmann, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.
Probst wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Forreston kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. Forreston is a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Amboy entered their tilt with Oregon on Monday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Hawks a 10-0 shutout. While the Clippers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Carson Barlow made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
Barlow wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Quinn Leffelman, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Amboy pushed their record up to 6-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Forreston, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season.
Amboy's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Forreston hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .340. It's a different story for Amboy, though, as they've only averaged .230. Will they be able to contain Forreston's hitters?
Forreston took their win against Amboy in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 12-3. Will Forreston repeat their success, or does Amboy has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
