Baseball Recap: Sonora Takes a Loss

After flying high against Woodrow Wilson on Friday, Sonora came back down to earth. The Raiders fell just short of the Brea Olinda Wildcats by a score of 1-0 on Wednesday. The game marked the first time this season in which the Raiders were not able to get on the board.

Robby Blaine was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run over eight innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Sonora saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ryan Lietzau, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base. Luke Crowder also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Sonora's defeat dropped their record down to 13-8. As for Brea Olinda, they pushed their record up to 14-6 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Wildcats beat Sonora by a score of 7-4 on Friday.
