Basketball Recap: Palmyra Comes Up Short

Palmyra extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping them down to 8-9. They took a 48-32 bruising from the Weeping Water Indians. The Panthers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Indians earlier this season, when they won 35-34.

Despite the defeat, Palmyra saw an underclassman step up: freshman Kenli Peterson dropped a double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds. Those 15 boards set a new season-high mark for Peterson.

As for Weeping Water, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 13-7. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 23.0 points on average over those games.

Weeping Water's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ella Huskey, who went 8-for-20 en route to 18 points along with five rebounds and three steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Huskey has scored at least a third of the Indians' points. Another player making a difference was Tenley Ridge, who posted ten points in addition to seven boards and six steals.

Palmyra wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 58-3 win against Falls City on the 6th. As for Weeping Water, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 58-37 loss against Elmwood-Murdock on the 6th.
