Baseball Recap: Granite Hills Takes a Loss

Granite Hills extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 7-15 in the process. They fell 5-1 to the Corcoran Panthers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 back in April.

As for Corcoran, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 18-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games.

For Corcoran's part, Ethan Chavez spent all seven innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on one hit and racked up 14 Ks. Chavez has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Tony Alvarez was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaron Dias, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Granite Hills didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 4-2 defeat against Summit Charter Collegiate Academy on the 6th. As for Corcoran, they have also already played their next game, a 6-4 win against Lindsay on the 6th.
