Baseball Recap: Newton Eagles vs. Woodville Eagles
Newton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against Woodville, falling 26-11. Even if Newton couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
Bebo Smith was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. That stolen base marked the first that he snagged this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Camden Will, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-5.
Newton's defeat dropped their record down to 3-16. As for Woodville, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 7-14-1.
We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Newton is set to square off against their familiar foe Diboll at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Woodville will face off against rival Central Heights at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
