Volleyball Recap: Foothill Comes Up Short in High-Profile Contest with Palo Verde

On Thursday, Foothill faced Palo Verde in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Foothill Falcons fell just short of the Palo Verde Panthers by a score of 3-2. The Falcons haven't had much luck with the Panthers recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.

Foothill was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Palo Verde work for it, especially in the second set. The match finished with set scores of 23-25, 44-42, 25-17, 22-25, 15-13.

Foothill's offense was headlined by Hayden Mauro and Toller Trummell, who picked up 16 kills apiece. They got some help from Jayden Ellizar-Keiki and his 46 assists. Finally, Trummell was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high four blocks.

Foothill's defeat dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Palo Verde, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season.

Foothill will challenge Buchanan at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday. As for Palo Verde, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Palo Verde Panthers duke it out with Coronado Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on March 25th.
