Baseball Recap: Godwin Heights Comes Up Short

Godwin Heights extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 2-11 in the process. They lost 18-0 to the Hopkins Vikings. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Vikings this season, with their most recent loss being a 3-1 defeat on Tuesday.

As for Hopkins, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season. The result was nothing new for Hopkins, who have now won ten matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

For Hopkins' part, Merek Zapolnik was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, Zapolnik posted five strikeouts, the most he's had over his last six contests. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kellen Ford, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Trent Smith, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
