Football Game Preview: Shepherd Pirates vs. Diboll Lumberjacks

After each having a week off, the Shepherd Pirates and the Diboll Lumberjacks will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Shepherd will come into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.

While Shepherd didn't have the best season last year (they finished 3-7), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They walked away with a 30-17 win over Anderson-Shiro last Friday.

Shepherd's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jacorey Davis, who rushed for 172 yards and one touchdown on only 14 carries. Those 172 rushing yards gave Davis a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Landen Dellinger, who gained 164 total yards and a touchdown.

Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 47-7, which was the final score in Diboll's tilt against Woodville last Friday.

Diboll dropped their record down to 1-3 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Shepherd, their victory bumped their record up to 4-0.

Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's matchup: Shepherd has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 376.8 total yards per game. It's a different story for Diboll, though, as they've been averaging only 183.8 total yards. Will Shepherd be able to march up the field at their leisure again, or will the Lumberjacks flip the script?

Shepherd strolled past Diboll when the teams last played back in October of 2024 by a score of 50-35. Do the Pirates have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lumberjacks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
