Basketball Recap: Antioch Sequoits vs. Grant Community Bulldogs
While it was all tied up 18-18 at halftime, the Antioch Sequoits were not quite the Grant Community Bulldogs's equal in the second half on Wednesday. Antioch fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 37-34. Antioch was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in November of 2023.
Despite the defeat, Antioch saw an underclassman step up: Heidi Rathmann scored 11 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Hailey Caya, who scored six points.
Antioch has not been sharp recently as the team's lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 16-9 record this season. As for Grant Community, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-15.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Antioch and the Bulldogs will face off at 12:30 p.m. on February 3rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Wauconda is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last eight games. As for Grant Community, they will head out on the road to face off against the Panthers at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
