Baseball Game Preview: Cheyenne Desert Shields vs. Rancho Rams

The Cheyenne Desert Shields will head out on the road to challenge the Rancho Rams at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Cheyenne is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They put the hurt on Sports Leadership & Management with a sharp 12-2 victory. The high-scoring effort was just what the Desert Shields needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

Cheyenne let Tapa Gamoras and Taven Thaker run wild. Gamoras got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base, while Thaker got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs Gamoras has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Raymundo Chevalier, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Cheyenne always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sports Leadership & Management only posted an OBP of .350.

Meanwhile, Rancho entered their tilt with Canyon Springs on Friday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Pioneers a 13-0 shutout.

Cheyenne's record is now 20-10. As for Rancho, their record now sits at 14-15.

Cheyenne suffered a grim 16-0 defeat to Rancho when the teams last played back in March of 2019. Can the Desert Shields avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
